Ex Lapide (Latin for “Out of Stone”) is a free Virginia Tech alumni society for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, alumni, and their allies.

Mission/Purpose

To encourage fellowship and to represent the needs of Virginia Tech's LGBTQIA+ community. The success of the society depends on alumni, students, faculty, staff, and other partners, who are willing to volunteer and support the efforts of the society.

Signature  annual events include the following:

  • Student/Alumni Out at Work Networking Workshop and Social
  • Year Zero Celebration for LGBTQIA+ Graduates and friends
  • Capital Pride Celebration in Washington, DC
  • Ex Lapide at Capital Pride Information Booth
  • LGBTQIA+ Annual Reunion

Ex Lapide Volunteer Registration and Interest Survey

The Ex Lapide Alumni Society and the Office of Alumni Relations seek alumni, students, faculty, staff, and allies who want to help the society thrive. Volunteers will help plan, conduct, and strategize for both existing and innovative new endeavors, which will ensure its continued success and work to represent the many voices of the LGBTQIA+ community.
