Sesquicentennial HokieTalks: Solving Problems in the D.C. Metro Area

Join us for three 10-minute HokieTalks exploring the research related to transportation, cybersecurity, and national security. The 10-minute talks will be followed by Q&A with moderator Randy Heflin, senior associate vice president for research and innovation and professor of physics.

• Liz White is the program and business manager for the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute. Her talk explores smart mobility and envisions a connected future. The Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI) conducts research to save lives, time, and money, and to protect the environment. VTTI continually advances transportation innovation and affects public policy on national and international levels.
• Luiz DaSilva is the Bradley Professor of Cybersecurity and executive director the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI). His talk will focus on engaging the next generation of cybersecurity professionals to close Virginia’s cybersecurity workforce gap. CCI is Virginia’s main access point for cybersecurity research, innovation, workforce development, and news. At CCI, researchers find funding and collaboration, students discover diverse career possibilities, and new innovations come to life.
• Laura Freeman is deputy director of the Virginia Tech National Security Institute. Her talk focuses on the pursuit of a secure America. The Virginia Tech National Security Institute conducts research and impacts policies related to national intelligence, defense, law enforcement, homeland security, and cybersecurity.
