Dear Future Hokie,

On behalf of the NC Triad Chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association, congratulations on being accepted to Virginia Tech! Admission becomes more competitive each year, so this is an achievement of which you should be proud.

The NC Triad Chapter annually awards two scholarships to qualifying students from the Triad area who will be attending Virginia Tech. The scholarships are one year, $2000 non-renewable awards, and are applied directly toward the first year tuition costs.

The deadline for application is Monday, April 27, 2020. Each completed application must be accompanied by a copy of the applicant’s transcript, as well as a resume, if available. Applications submitted without transcripts will not be considered.

The applications will be reviewed and evaluated by a committee made up of local alumni. Each committee member will rank the applications based on grade point average, SAT or ACT test scores, honors, extra-curricular activities, and an essay. A composite ranking will be compiled from the individual rankings, and the top 5 or 6 students will be contacted to participate in an interview. During the interview, the candidates will individually talk with committee members so that the committee can get to know each applicant on a personal basis, and the student can have the opportunity to ask questions about Virginia Tech. The two scholarship recipients will then be selected from the interviewees.

If you haven’t visited the Tech campus, we would encourage you to do so. Blacksburg is about a two-hour trip from the Triad. The campus is relatively self-contained, and together with the Town of Blacksburg, offers a wide range of academic, social, and recreational activities. Overall, Virginia Tech/Blacksburg is a stimulating place to live and study, and we are sure that you will enjoy your time there, as just about any Hokie alum will tell you.

Again, congratulations on your acceptance to Virginia Tech! We look forward to receiving your scholarship application. Please feel free to contact Linda ( or Thomas ( if you have any questions.
