“Leaving the old, both worlds at once they view
That stand upon the threshold of the new.”
(Edmund Waller, 1606-1687, English poet)
October 30 - November 1, 2009
Dear Alumni,
Join with us as we cross the threshold into a new era of theatre at Virginia Tech.
For nearly 40 years, the Performing Arts Building has been the home for our classes, our offices, and our black box laboratory theatre. This fall we move into the newly
renovated Henderson Hall for all academic and administrative functions and a brand new flexible performance space facing downtown. Academically and creatively, the Cinema program becomes joined with Theatre Arts to form the Department of Theatre and Cinema.
To acknowledge these many milestones, we have built a year-long season of celebration to honor our past and look forward to our future. Alumni performers, directors, designers and film producers will join with current faculty and students for major productions and special events as we step into our future together.
The celebration begins with the Grand Opening of Theatre 101. The full weekend of activities will include an inaugural public performance in the new theatre and film screenings by distinguished alumni and many other wonderful events. The season continues with guest artists and alumni designers throughout and closes with a guest alumni director leading a re-envisioned classic American play.
Share the journey with us as we view both worlds at once and cross the threshold of the new.
Sincerely,
Patricia Raun
