Dear Friend,
The decade of 1976-87 was very special to both Virginia Tech and me. When I look back on the many accomplishments we had as Hokies my heart swells with pride. Two years ago Virginia Tech honored me by induction to their Hall of Fame. Every coach knows that Hall of Fame success only comes with great players. When I look back at the rosters we had during my tenure at Tech, I know how fortunate I was to be surrounded by talented people. One of the great moments of the last two decades for me was having the opportunity to visit with basketball alums at the reunion of the 1979 Metro Championship team. There is nothing better for an “old coach” than having a chance to visit with former players and their families. Though the 1979 Championship was
special, that was just one of many great moments. Visits to the Cassell by Al McGuire, the Louisville and Memphis rivalries, the NIT in New York City, NCAA competitions against Western Kentucky, Bobby Knight , and Larry Bird to name a few. As the years pass, I cherish those times even more because of you and the many others I was blessed to be associated with at Virginia Tech.
Virginia Tech is now in the very capable hands of Seth Greenberg. Seth is doing an outstanding job of creating a new legacy of which we can all be proud. I hope you will join me in a reunion of players, parents, foster parents, and all those associated with our success in Blacksburg on June 26-27, 2009 to celebrate both the past and future of Hokie basketball.
Sincerely,
Charles Moir
