Dear Fellow Classmates:
“Betcha never thought we would be this old, did ya…”

Oh well, at least now we know that we can trust some people over thirty. We are going to celebrate our 35 year milestone after graduation from Virginia Tech and all of the great things we learned, experienced and did (both together and apart) in Blacksburg. Our reunion will be November 6 - 7, 2008 and will correspond with the Virginia Tech vs Maryland football game!

Gatie Stoneman has been working mightily with our Alumni Association to put together a spectacular package, full of opportunities to have fun and renew our old friendships as well as make some new ones. A tentative schedule is to the right of this letter. The Holtzman Alumni Center will be our home base and the fun will start here with registration, and activities flow from there.

Some features of our reunion include:

  • Low registration cost: $80.00 (plus reduced prices for kids)
  • 7:30 p.m. Thursday night football against the Maryland Terps (No fear here!)
  • Class brunch Friday morning; other optional lunches and brunches
  • Class photo Friday morning at the Alumni Fountain
  • Friday reception at the Holiday Inn (directly across from the Inn at Virginia Tech)
  • Friday night reunion banquet with speakers and special guests
  • Friday night dance with the renown DJ Earl Brown (of Mountain Lake in ’98 fame!)
  • Late night “debates” at the Holiday Inn bar (purely an intellectual exercise for the Night Owls among you, if you get my drift…)

After Friday, we can make some plans of our own for the weekend! As a side note, there is a book out about the Hahn years at Tech, many of which we shared with the President. We will have copies available at the reunion as favors. We hope to have several athletes of our day and current personalities from Virginia Tech at our gathering for you to meet and enjoy their company. Also, one of our classmates, John Lawson, is hoping to come; he is Rector of the University’s Board of Visitors and co-chair of the campaign for Virginia Tech. We are proud of his leadership.

Please remember, you are the most important special guest. Try to make it back and bring a few of your Tech buds with you. As we grow young together and graduate to the ranks of “parents of college grads” and even “grandparents,” the connections and memories of events such as this one are irreplaceable and truly “…Priceless.”

Don’t miss this event. Register early for limited set-aside rooms and tickets. Mark your calendar NOW, and make the connection with fellow Hokies to bring this party to Blacksburg. Have the time of your life, because this will be the only 35th Virginia Tech reunion you will ever have!

With kindest regards and warm memories,

Rocky Sorrell
