Bill Johnson
Blacksburg, VA
540/230 - 9127
The origin of this work is rooted in the perception of a subject and the simple position it
claims within the environment. Through compositional isolation and focusing on the formal
elements of a subject, such as line, color, and light, the work addresses how something
we take for granted is altered, revealing a distinct identity.
Incorporating the methods and materials of both painting and drawing, a rich, varied surface
is achieved, redolent with immediacy as well as a developed sense of visual history.
Bill Johnson received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Colorado State University and
a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He worked as a commercial sculptor and Mural Painter in Saint Louis, MO, and Las Vegas, NV, before settling
in Blacksburg in the Spring of 2002.
Join us at the Holtzman Alumni Center, 2nd floor Gallery, M-F 8am - 5pm to view his artwork.
