An Overview of the Online Directory
What is the Virginia Tech Alumni Association Online Directory?
The Directory is a password-protected and secured service provided by the Virginia Tech Alumni Association to improve communication among alumni. After you select your Alumni PID and Password, you are able to log in at any time to search for contact information on classmates and friends.
Do I need to pay a fee to access the Virginia Tech Alumni Association Online Directory?
No. The online directory is free and is available to all alumni who have an alumni PID and Password. If you do not have an alumni PID or password, please contact 540/231-4357. You may also visit the Alumni Gateway.
What types of searches can I perform?
You may use the basic or the advanced search options to search for fellow alumni by city, state, zip code, academic major, or occupation.
Obtaining Directory Access
In order to access the Directory, Please confirm your identity and generate your Alumni PID and Password. Please select "Alumni Gateway - Personal Services" from the menu to the left. Your Alumni PID and Password also allows you to view and update your alumni profile and take free courses online. If you have trouble obtaining your PID and Password, please contact 4help or 540/231-4357.
Logging in
How do I log in to the Virginia Tech Alumni Association Online Directory after I have generated a PID and Password?
You can select Update My Profile on the left side of any Alumni Association webpage, or go directly to www.alumni.vt.edu/gateway and select Alumni Online Directory.

How do I select whether or not my information is shown in the Online Directory?
You may choose not to have your information available in the Online Directory, if you wish. Please go to the Alumni Gateway at www.alumni.vt.edu/gateway and select "Update my Contact Information". Check the box labeled "do not display". Your information will not be viewable by other alumni. Changes to the directory are upload the first of each month.
How do I update the information in my Online Directory listing?
In order to update the information shown in the Online Directory or any other portion of your alumni record, please go to the Alumni Gateway at www.alumni.vt.edu/gateway and select ""Update my Contact Information".
Privacy, Security, and Acceptable Use
Who can view my information?
Only Virginia Tech alumni, verified against the Alumni Association's records, will receive access to the Directory. The information you provide is kept for Virginia Tech's records and is not available publicly.
Is my information secure?
Virginia Tech makes every effort to protect personal privacy. The Online Directory site is technologically secure and password-protected.
How may alumni use Directory information?
This directory is for official Virginia Tech Alumni Association and University use and also for individual communication of a personal nature between alumni listed herein. Use of this directory for any other purpose, including, but not limited to, reproducing and storing in a retrieval system by any means, electronic or mechanical, photocopying or using the addresses or other information contained in this directory for any private, commercial, or political mailing is strictly prohibited and is in direct violation of copyright and constitutes misappropriation of corporate property.
All information contained herein remains the property of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association. The directory may not be reproduced in whole or in part by any person or any entity without the written permission of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association. The Virginia Tech Alumni Association has attempted to verify and correctly state the information contained herein. However, the Virginia Tech Alumni Association disclaims all liability and responsibility for the accuracy of this information. In addition, circumstances may have rendered some information herein obsolete prior to the date of publication or prior to the time the information is reviewed by the reader. Any tips on setting up and using my PID?
Your Alumni PID (Personal IDentifier) and password give you access to a growing suite of services personalized for you.
- Keep your Alumni PID secure and in a place where you can remember it.
- If you already have an active Virginia Tech PID (e.g. alumni who are current Virginia Tech faculty or staff), you need not select a new Alumni PID. Your current PID and password will allow you to access the Alumni Gateway services.

540/231-4357 - Your PID will not become active immediately. There is typically a 24-48 hour period before you can begin using your PID. That turn-around time may be extended by weekends and holidays.
