An Overview of the Online Directory
What is the Virginia Tech Alumni Association Online Directory?
The Directory is a password-protected and secured service provided by the Virginia Tech Alumni Association to improve communication among alumni. After you select your VT PID and Password, you are able to login at any time to search for contact information on classmates and friends.
Do I need to pay a fee to access the Virginia Tech Alumni Association Online Directory?
No. The online directory is free and available to all alumni who have a VT PID and Password. If you do not have a VT PID or password, please contact 540/231-4357. You may also visit the Alumni Gateway.
What types of searches can I perform?
You may use the basic or advanced search options to search for fellow alumni by name, class year, city, state, zip code, academic major, or occupation.
Obtaining Directory Access
In order to access the Directory, please confirm your identity and generate your VT PID and Password. Your VT PID and Password also allows you to view and update your alumni profile and take free courses online. If you have trouble obtaining your VT PID and Password, please contact 4help or 540/231-4357.

How do I login to the Virginia Tech Alumni Association Online Directory after I have generated a VT PID and Password?
You can select Update My Profile & PID on the left side of any Alumni Association webpage or go directly to the Online Alumni Directory.

How do I select whether or not my information is shown in the Online Directory?
You may choose not to have your information available in the Online Directory, if you wish. Please go to the Alumni Gateway at www.alumni.vt.edu/gateway and select "Update your contact and e-mail addresses." Check the box labeled "do not display." Your information will not be viewable by other alumni. Changes to the directory are uploaded the first of each month.
How do I update the information in my Online Directory listing?
In order to update the information shown in the Online Directory or any other portion of your alumni record, please go to the Alumni Gateway at www.alumni.vt.edu/gateway and select "Update my Contact Information." You can update your address, phone, and e-mail addresses only. If you want to update other information, contact us at alumni.vt.edu.
Privacy, Security, and Acceptable Use
Who can view my information?
Only Virginia Tech alumni, verified against the Alumni Association's records, will receive access to the Directory. The information you provide is kept for Virginia Tech's records and is not available to the public.
Is my information secure?
Yes. Only you can access and update your personal information. Other registered users of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association can view your directory information via a password-protected login. Areas of the website containing private information are located on a secure server utilizing Secure Socket Layer (SSL) 128-bit encryption. You can limit what information appears to other alumni by using the "Hide" checkboxes in your profile.
How may alumni use Directory information?
This Directory is for official Virginia Tech Alumni Association and University use and also for individual communication of a personal nature between alumni listed. Use of this Directory for any other purpose, including, but not limited to, reproducing and storing in a retrieval system by any means, electronic or mechanical, photocopying, or using the addresses or other information contained in this directory for any private, commercial, or political mailing is strictly prohibited and is in direct violation of copyright and constitutes misappropriation of corporate property.
All information contained herein remains the property of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association. The Directory may not be reproduced in whole, or in part, by any person or any entity without the written permission of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association. The Virginia Tech Alumni Association has attempted to verify and correctly state the information contained herein. However, the Virginia Tech Alumni Association disclaims all liability and responsibility for the accuracy of this information. In addition, circumstances may have rendered some information herein obsolete prior to the date of publication or prior to the time the information is reviewed by the reader. The reader is encouraged to contact the Virginia Tech Alumni Association to obtain any updated information.
Can I remove my information from the Directory?
You can choose to remove any or all contact information from the Online Directory. The only information that cannot be removed is your name, class year, and degree information.
How much of my information can other alumni see?
You choose how much information you want other alumni to see. To keep members' records as current as possible, we ask that you fill out all the fields. You can then click "Hide", which will hide information you wish from other alumni.
I see extra white space between individual fields. Why?
This website, like most, responds to different Internet browsers. It is best viewed in Internet Explorer.
Any tips on setting up and using my PID?
Your VT PID (Personal IDentifier) and password give you access to a growing suite of services personalized for you.
Keep your VT PID secure and in a place where you can remember it.
If you already have an active VT PID (e.g. alumni who are current Virginia Tech faculty or staff), you need not select a new VT PID. Your current PID and password will allow you to access the Alumni Gateway services.

540/231-4357.Your VT PID will not become active immediately. There is typically a 24-48 hour period before you can begin using your VT PID. That turn-around time may be extended by weekends and holidays.
