Outstanding Volunteer:
Michael Eck
Richmond Chapter
For the last several years Michael Eck has spent hundreds of hours serving as a loyal volunteer of the Richmond Chapter. A full time employee might be a more fitting description, given the amount of time and effort he puts into any event the chapter undertakes. Aside from continuing his leadership for the Hokies at the Hangar event and working diligently to obtain sponsorships every fall, Eck has recruited many new volunteers for the chapter.
The most impressive accomplishment this year was the coordination and management of the Spring Fling & Wine Festival. The 300+ attendees were pleased with the ten Virginia wineries and dozen vendors that participated in the festival. Through Eck’s efforts, two bands played for free, allowing the chapter to save on entertainment costs. In addition to gathering volunteers, working with vendors and assisting with sponsorships, the event netted over $9,000. Eck has been instrumental to the successes of this event and many others.
Outstanding Chapter Officer
Jon Purdy
Charlotte Chapter
Jon Purdy served the Charlotte Chapter for two years, including a term as president before heading to Waco, Texas to obtain his MBA at Baylor. When he got the opportunity to return to Charlotte with Evergreen Investments, Purdy jumped at the chance and called immediately to get re-involved with the chapter. He wanted to know what job was open and chose the most challening, the North Carolina Virginia Tech License Plates. After previous Charlotte Chapter presidents have tried and were unsuccessful, he said he would do it and he did!
After completing his term as president recently, Purdy remains on the board as treasurer. He becomes the fifth former president serving on the board along with Gary Ball, Jonathan Mangels, John Mattox, and Kelly Senstrom Lynn.
The Charlotte Chapter has been fortunate to have outstanding leaders, and Jon Purdy is clearly among this impressive group.
